Whole-Home Window Treatments for a New Brighton East Family Home
A brand-new three-level family home in Brighton East required a complete window furnishing solution — full-height plantation shutters on the street-facing façade, motorised double roller blinds on sliding doors, retractable fly screens on stacker doors, and whole-home smart automation.
This three-level Brighton East home was already exceptional — floor-to-ceiling glazing throughout, a basement entertainment level, alfresco decking and a north-facing garden. The brief matched the ambition of the build: every window treated thoughtfully, every product chosen to suit the way the family actually lives.
The full-height plantation shutters were the defining element from the street. Fitted across the main living level's large picture windows, they give the home a polished, considered presence from outside while offering precise light control within. On the sliding doors leading to the alfresco deck, we installed motorised double roller blinds — a sunscreen fabric for daytime use and a blockout layer behind for privacy when needed. The stacker doors in the family area received pleated retractable fly screens, allowing the doors to stay fully open in summer without insects being an issue. In the bedrooms, we layered motorised roller blinds behind the plantation shutters for complete blackout — particularly important in the master suite's large picture window. The basement gym was kept practical: motorised rollers on every window for effortless control during workouts.
All motorised blinds are integrated into a whole-home smart system, working alongside the lighting, garage door and door locks through a single platform. The family can set schedules, control everything remotely or trigger scenes with a single tap. The automation is invisible when it works — and this one works exactly as it should.

How Each Space Was Treated
Street-Facing Windows & Living Areas
Full-height plantation shutters were fitted across every street-facing window and the main living level. From the outside, the result is immediately striking — clean, considered and cohesive. From inside, the 89mm louvres give precise control over light and privacy throughout the day without ever feeling heavy or closed in.
Family Stacker Doors
The large stacker doors in the family room are the heart of the home in warmer months — but without protection, insects make outdoor living impossible. Pleated retractable fly screens were fitted across the full opening, allowing the doors to stay open all day without a single fly getting through. When not needed, the screens retract completely out of sight.
Bedrooms — Layered Blackout
In the bedrooms, shutters alone weren't enough — the family needed full blackout for sleeping. We layered motorised blockout roller blinds behind the plantation shutters on every bedroom window. The shutters handle the daytime look and light filtering; the rollers drop for complete darkness at night. The master suite, with its large picture window, particularly benefits from this combination.
Basement Gym
The basement gym needed something practical and effortless. Motorised roller blinds were fitted throughout — blockout fabric to eliminate glare during workouts, and one-touch operation so there's nothing to think about. No cords, no fuss, just the right light at the right time.
Whole-Home Automation
Every motorised blind in the house is integrated into a single smart home platform, working alongside the lighting, garage door and door locks. The family can control everything from their phone, set daily schedules, or trigger whole-home scenes with one tap. The blinds open automatically each morning and close at sunset — a level of convenience that quickly becomes impossible to live without.
